Animal Control

Nelson County Animal Control is committed and proud to enforce the Nelson County Animal Ordinance. All county residents are required to abide by this ordinance. Please review the ordinance to learn more about how to comply with animal laws for Nelson County. 

Animal Control can assist county residents with the following issues: stray animal capture, surrendering a pet, lost or found animal reports, nuisance complaints, animal neglect/welfare checks, and animal emergencies. County residents who need to surrender their pets must call the office to schedule a drop off time/date prior to arrival. Scheduling the surrender of your pet is extremely important. We must have vacant kennels at the shelter in order to give your pet an opportunity for adoption or rescue. Thank you for understanding and cooperating!
